Steps
- Open Media Library in the sidebar and click a file. A file that has not been scored shows Unscanned. New uploads start that way, and the Safety Lens filter has an Unscanned option to list them.
- To score the open file, click Scan now. To score several, click Select, tick the files, and click Scan.
- Read the marks. Each platform has its own scale:
- Instagram: a check for low risk, then moderate, high, and blocked.
- X: a check, a limited mark, or 18+ when the file would be age-gated.
- Reddit: SFW, Suggestive, or NSFW.
- Click the info icon next to the marks, labelled Score breakdown, to see the explicit, severity, and suggestive percentages and the top detections.
- If the score is wrong, open the file and click Mark as NSFW. The button changes to NSFW (manual). Click it again to remove the override. The file goes back to Unscanned, so scan it again.
Safety Lens is advisory and can be wrong. It cannot see suggestive shapes through clothing, such as a nipple outline or a bulge under fabric, so a file can score lower than it deserves. Mark as NSFW is the fix for that.
Good to know
- Files imported from RedGifs arrive marked explicit from their source, without a scan.
- A RedGifs mark appears when a file reads as NSFW on Reddit or you mark it NSFW.
- In the composer, a media badge reading Safety Lens means the file scored riskier than the chosen subreddit usually runs. A badge reading Not scored means no scan yet. Neither badge stops you from picking the file.
